EmpoweRanch is an Arizona 501(c)(3) nonprofit helping people adventure, discover, and thrive through inclusive outdoor therapeutic recreation and education. Based in Phoenix, we serve veterans, youth, families, people with disabilities, and neurodivergent participants.
Programs are directed by a nationally certified recreational therapist and supported by team expertise in adaptive recreation, mental and behavioral health, environmental education, horsemanship, outdoor leadership, group facilitation, and risk management. We use horses and other animals, nature, outdoor skills, service, creativity, mindfulness, and challenge-by-choice activities to strengthen self-regulation, coping, communication, confidence, trust, teamwork, problem-solving, connection, and purpose. Experiences are adapted for varied abilities, goals, and comfort levels so participants can take on real challenges, recognize their capabilities, and carry new skills into their lives.
Veteran program examples include VORTEX, an eight-week unmounted outdoor therapeutic recreation and equine program, and the annual EmpoweRanch Veterans Camp Out. Our team provides steady guidance, skilled support, and experiences that can transform how veterans see themselves and their future. This work helps veterans rebuild trust in themselves and others, respond to stress in healthier ways, form supportive relationships, rediscover purpose, step out of isolation, and reconnect with family and community.
